Lily and Maggie

Maggie and Lily came from Animal Aid at Coldstream in mid-2007, both almost 1 year old and surrendered by their previous owners.

They are very different characters but each demonstrate many doglike behaviours. Maggie is not backward in coming forward for attention at any time, and any sitting human becomes an instant cat chair - but she is also happy to tag along for a walk down to the back boundary or the dam.

She takes a relaxing break as often as possible, and wherever possible.

Both girls come when called, and Maggie has done a perfect recall from a distance of approximately 40 metres, talking all the way!

Lily is more self contained than Maggie but loves a cuddle. She has had some unfortunate incidents since arriving here, but has stayed around so overall she must like it! She had a particularly bad day soon after arriving, where she ventured into the dog yard and got furiously investigated by 3 enthusiastic noses. No injuries resulted to her or the dogs, but she bolted up a handy tree and sat there for 2 hours. When I was able to coax her down, she came inside to de-stress for a while.

Just before dark, it was back outside again for a breath of fresh air before heading off to the shed for the night.

I couldn't see her in the fading light, and was about to call her, when I heard a dreadful squalling, and the sound of a bell tinkling away into the distance. She was gone for several hours, and finally was discovered up a large tree from which she could not get down. Operation rescue mission commenced at about 9.30pm with ladder and cat carrier, and ended about half an hour later inside with an inspection of her injuries. This was Lily's introduction to one of the local 'feral' cats.

Despite numerous run-ins and injuries from the same cat, she has retained her friendliness to people and remained trusting and pleasant natured. Fondly nicknamed 'Disaster cat,' in times of stress she has used her paws (not claws) to advise that she is not comfortable, but she can always be counted on to get into the spirit of a hunt-stalk-play.
